Love your lymphatics to lose weight

Did you know that ignoring your lymphatic system can actually contribute to weight gain?!

The lymphatic system is our fluid-based waste system of the body. This fluid is outside of our cells and all in between our tissues. And when these fluid channels get really clogged and congested, we often notice it in our legs, in our belly in the form of bloating, perhaps in our necks for us Hashimoto girls, armpits and boobs, and we can feel like we’re struggling to lose weight.

Therefore the lymphatic system is one of the key drivers that we need to be working on daily!

So why is this?

Well the lymphatic system has two jobs.

Firstly, it transports our fat soluble vitamins – our vitamins A, D, E and K – which are really important antioxidants for our body. This helps to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress (think of rust on a car!).

And secondly, it’s a garbage disposal unit. Poo gets rid of waste, urine gets rid of waste, but our lymphatic system gets rid of debris – in our case, it’s cellular debris. The leftovers from our cells carrying out their normal functions.

So if your lymphatic system gets clogged and doesn’t move, you can start to reabsorb those toxins back into your system, which keeps you feeling sluggish, in pain, inflamed, and like you’re gaining weight.

How can we get this garbage disposal unit processing again?

  • Dry body brush. This can help shift and move (and lose!) excess waste (and therefore, kilos) in a matter of a few days. We can literally start to change our shape just by dry body brushing.
  • Hydrate to flush those toxins and get things working in the body. We need around 2.5-3L of water per day, depending on our size. Room temperature water is best so our body doesn’t have to expend energy in warming it up for use in our cells. Also don’t forget that some beautiful herbal teas count towards this hydration.

As you can see, these are two super simple and non-stressful ways to actually start shifting excess fluid and weight and start changing the shape and the health of your body.
